China Protects Natural Forest
China's natural forest protection project has produced results, according to a source with the State Forestry Administration (SFA).
"Nearly one million lumberjacks have stopped cutting trees and been re-employed by other sectors, and the majority of the natural forests in China have been put under strict protection," said Liu Yuehui, an official with the SFA on Wenesday in Beijing.
He said the government has spent more than seven billion yuan (some US$875 million) to protect the nation's natural forests since the program began in 1998.
