Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji met Wednesday with Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin of the Supreme Court of Canada, and said China and Canada have enjoyed close relations.

He said that high-level exchanges of visits between the two countries have also been frequent in recent years, adding that this year marks 30th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-Canadian diplomatic relations, and McLachlin's visit to China willhelp promote mutual understanding, friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

He said that China is implementing the strategy of governing the country according to law and building a socialist country based on the rule of law, and it is willing to learn from other countries in the rule of law, adding that McLachlin's visit will help promote Sino-Canadian exchanges and cooperation in the judicial area.

McLachlin said that it is worth celebrating that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the forging of diplomatic relations between the two countries, expressing her appreciation for China's efforts to build a country ruled by law.

She said that talks with Chinese counterparts have enabled her to learn that the Chinese government places great importance on pushing ahead with the rule of law.
