Bashar Elected Secretary General of Baath Party
Syria's ruling Baath Party elected Bashar al-Assad its secretary general Tuesday, a step further for Bashar to succeed his late father, President Hafez al-Assad.
The 35-year-old heir-apparent has been declared commander of Syria's armed forces, official SANA news agency said.
