Twelve female soldiers who are still on active service have been chosen to form a special unit of the armed police force in Shanghai, the first organization of its kind locally and the second nationwide.

The special policewomen, whose average age is 20, have passed education, intelligence, and physical tests, and have begun strict training.

The women are specialized in safeguarding public security by dealing with sudden incidents

On the occasion of the forthcoming 73rd founding anniversary of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) on August 1 this year, the special unit will stage a performance of their skills and accomplishments, said Major General Xin Jude, commander of the Shanghai Armed Police Corps.
