Taiwan Parties Welcome to Visit Mainland: Official

Different parties and people of all the circles in Taiwan are welcome to exchange views with the Chinese mainland on issues regarding the cross-straits relations and peaceful reunification, said Chen Yunlin, director of the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office under the State Council.

Some Taiwan media recently reported that a number of parties and groups in Taiwan have hoped to visit the mainland.

Chen quoted President Jiang Zemin's eight proposals in 1995 as saying that Taiwan parties hope to push forward the development of cross-straits ties in a rational, far-sighted and constructive manner.

For years, the mainland has made wide-ranged contacts with different parties, groups and individuals from Taiwan, under the one-China principle. Chen reiterated that the one-China principle is the base and premise for peaceful reunification.

Under the one-China principle, "we welcome different parties and people from Taiwan to exchange views with us on the cross- straits ties and peaceful reunification and to further eliminate misunderstanding and promoting mutual understanding," he said.

Except those who have stubbornly adhered to "Taiwan independence", the mainland is willing to work along with the parties, groups and individuals from Taiwan, uphold the common desire of opposing "Taiwan independence", pursuing peace and promoting reunification, and actively boost economic cooperation.

He expressed the hope to realize direct exchanges of mail, trade and transport across the Taiwan Straits at an early date, push forward cross-straits talks and negotiations based on the one- China principle, and realize the reunification of the country.
