SW China Province Improves Environment

The environment in southwest China 's Yunnan Province has been improved, according to a latest government bulletin.

According to the bulletin, although 11 percent of lakes in the province are getting worse, 23.5 percent have improved their quality of water in the past year.

Some famous tourist attractions like the Erhai Lake, the Luguhu Lake and the Fuxianhu Lake are so clean that their water can be directly used as drinking water sources, the bulletin said.

The upper reaches of the province's major rivers have been prevented from pollution. Air quality in 59 percent of the province's cities reported 1st or 2nd class air quality.

The province also set up two new nature reserves in the past year, adding the province's total number of nature reserves up to 112.

Yunnan received more than 37 million domestic and international visitors last year, making it the No.1 tourist destinations in western China.
