Exhibit of Chinese Ethnic Dresses to be Held in Southwest ProvinceDresses which have been passed down for some 400 years in a Tibetan family will be included in an exhibition of thousands of clothing and decorative items of Chinese ethnic groups next month.The event, scheduled for July 2-16, the first of its kind in the country, will be held in Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province. More than 15,000 rare dresses and ornaments of 56 Chinese ethnic groups will be on display. Four dresses from a Tibetan family in the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Diqing, Yunnan Province are decorated with gold and silver, coral and agate ornaments, and each is valued at more than 96,000 U.S. dollars. Other rare exhibits include one dress of the Hani Nationality which is decorated with ornaments made in 1819, and 350-year-old necklaces and head ornaments for a princess of the Dai Nationality. The event is organized by the State Ethnic Affairs Commission and Yunnan Provincial People's Government. |
