Jordanian Government Resigns, New PM Nominated
Jordanian King Abdullah II on Sunday named leading parliamentarian Ali Abu Ragheb as the country's new prime minister to replace Abdel Rauf Rawabdeh who submitted his resignation earlier in the day in Amman.
Ragheb will submit to the king on Monday the line-up of his new government comprising 27 or 29 ministers, a Jordanian official disclosed on condition of anonymity.
Since Rawabdeh took office last year, his government has been criticized for nepotism in appointments to senior jobs in the civil service and for graft and abuse of public funds. Three cabinet members have already quit.
