Guangdong to Forge Better Trade Ties With Overseas

Officials believe the eighth session of the Guangzhou Fair, scheduled for July 26-31, will provide a good occasion for enterprises from around the country as well as those from overseas to consider the market potential of south China's Guangdong Province.

The Guangzhou Fair is an annual event jointly organized by the municipal government of Guangzhou and the China Foreign Trade Center (Group).

Dai Donghe, director of the fair's organizing committee, was quoted as saying by Sunday's Business Weekly, 60 provincial or municipal governments nationwide will send trade delegations to the fair in search of markets for their products and investors.

Participation is high in the event because provinces and cities have had great successes at the previous fairs.

For many of the same reasons, overseas enterprises including those from the Republic of Korea, as well as Hong Kong and Macao will display products and seek co-operation opportunities at the fair.

Business transactions valued at 7.41 billion yuan (US$893 million) were made during the previous seven sessions of the fair. Agreements were signed for 597 projects involving an investment of 41.46 billion yuan (US$5 billion) including foreign capital input of US$2.93 billion, according to statistics from the organizing committee.
