More Than 600 Smuggled Cars Seized in Guangdong
A total of 633 smuggled cars were seized from January to May this year by Gongbei Customs in south China's Guangdong province near Macao and Hong Kong.
These cars are worth 22.38 million yuan (2.7 million US dollars), according to a customs source.
Local officials attribute the increase of car smuggling cases to two factors. One is the expanding market in China for imported cars, the other is the surplus of smuggled cars in Hong Kong due to anti-smuggling measures by related departments in China's inland areas.
