China's Leading Petrochemical Giant Starts 4th Phase Construction
Shanghai Petrochemical Company Limited, China's leading petrochemical producer, started its fourth phase construction with the investment of 6.5 billion yuan on June 18.
When the expansion project is completed in June of 2002, the company is expected to process 10 million tons of crude oil and produce up to one million tons of ethylene and other synthetic fiber materials annually.
The fourth phase construction of the petrochemical giant includes the technological upgrading of facilities with an annual production capacity of 700,000 ton of ethylene and the construction of new facilities with an annual production capacity of 250,000 tons of polyethylene as well as 200,000 tons of polypropylene.
When the projects are completed, the company can produce 910, 000 tons of ethylene, one-fifth of the country's total.
