DPRK Proposes Meeting Between Two Red Cross Societies
The leader of the Red Cross Society of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Friday called on his counterpart in South Korea to hold meetings soon for an early settlement of the humanitarian issues.
In a letter to the South Korean Red Cross Society, the DPRK official said that the two parties should take concrete measures to implement the historic DPRK-South Korean Joint Declaration and make active contribution to the improvement of relations between the two sides and the realization of independent and peaceful reunification in the Korean Peninsula.
Under the North-South Joint Declaration signed on June 15 by the leaders of the DPRK and South Korea, the two sides agreed to exchange visiting groups of separated families and relatives and discuss the issue of unconverted long-term prisoners as early as possible on the occasion of August 15 this year.
The DPRK also proposed holding the meeting this month in Panmunjom but the exact date could be decided by South Korea, the letter said.
