Campaign Targets Illegal Recordings

The Ministry of Culture will begin a campaign in July calling for people to fight against pirated and smuggled recordings.

And e-commerce will be encouraged and supported as one of the channels for people to buy audio and video recordings, according to a circular released by the ministry office.

The annual campaign aims to promote knowledge of laws and regulations on video and audio products among the public and better protect intellectual property rights.

The circular publicized a list of 30 illegal recording brands that emerged in the market recently, urging provincial branches to collect and destroy them, especially in Guangdong, Fujian, Hainan, Yunnan, Zhejiang provinces and Shanghai.

Genuine recordings need an orderly market, and China's sustainable development needs effective protection of intellectual property rights, said Tuo Zuhai, director of the ministry's Audio and Video Recordings Division.

As for the future development of China's audio and video recording market, the ministry plans to carry out reforms to establish an efficient and competitive recording publication network.

The ministry will also tighten up on the qualifications for running audio and video recording business.
