Bulgaria, China, Sign Protocol to Enhance Economic CooperationThe Sino-Bulgarian inter-government mixed committee on economic, trade and scientific-technological cooperation ended its meeting in Sofia Friday with a protocol pledging to enhance bilateral cooperation.Bulgarian Deputy Minister of Economy Levon Hampartsumyan and Zhou Keren, head of Chinese delegation and Deputy Minister of Chinese Trade and Economic Cooperation, signed the protocol on behalf of their governments. The two officials affirmed that their governments will actively assist companies in their countries in conducting direct contact, increasing mutual understanding and launching various forms of economic and technical cooperation, particularly in the area of investment. At a press conference following the meeting, Zhou said that it is of great importance that the commission has held talks just ahead of a planned visit to Bulgaria by Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji. The commission discussed bilateral cooperation in telecommunications, electrical household appliances and textile industry. During the three-day meeting, entrepreneurs from both countries started negotiations on concrete projects, he said. On his part, Hampartsumyan said the economic and trade ties between the two countries are satisfactory and Bulgaria is willing to boost the traditional friendship with China.
