Chinese Defense Minister Meets Sudanese Counterpart

Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian met with Abdel Rahman Sir Al-khatim on June 16, defense minister of the Sudan.

Chi, also vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission and a State Councilor, said that China values its relations with the African countries, and supports their just struggle to safeguard independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and oppose external interference.

He said that the Chinese and the Sudanese people have enjoyed long-term friendship, and good cooperation in the political, economic, military and cultural fields as well.

Chi expressed gratitude for the support of the Sudan to China on the issues of Taiwan and human rights. He said that China is ready to develop long-term, stable, and mutually-beneficial friendly relations with the Sudan.

He voiced his hope that Al-khatim's visit will promote cooperation between the two countries and armed forces.

Chi also outlined his view on the international situation and China's foreign policy, reaffirmed the Chinese government's stance on the Taiwan issue, and briefed them on the domestic situation and army building.

Al-khatim said that his country values the friendly relations with China, and is ready to further the exchanges and cooperation between the two countries and armed forces.

Qian Shugen, deputy chief of the General Staff of Chinese People's Liberation, attended the meeting.
