Key Device Finished for Nuclear Station

A nuclear evaporator, a key component in a nuclear power station, has received official approval and left Shanghai Friday for Qinshan Nuclear Power Station, the first Chinese-designed nuclear power station, in east China's Zhejiang province.

The evaporator was made for the second-phase construction of the Qinshan Nuclear Power Station, which started in 1995 and is scheduled for completion in 2002.

Also as part of this phase, two 600,000-kw generating units will be installed in the reactor.

The evaporator weighs 344 tons and is 20.8 meters high. It was built by the Shanghai Boiler Factory with technology provided by Westinghouse Corp. of the United States.
