Almon Poon, member of the Fight Crime Committee of Hong Kong, commended the award recipients, saying they had set a good example to the public and well deserved the Good Citizen Award. "The scheme was a success as more and more people took the initiatives to make crime reports and assist police in detecting crimes and arresting culprits," Poon noted. Since the scheme was launched in 1973, 2,826 people had been awarded. "It shows that the police have obtained extensive support and co-operation from the public in maintaining law and order in Hong Kong," Poon stressed.
