Hong Kong Awards Citizens for Help Anti-Crimes Fight

Forty Hong Kong residents received the Good Citizen Award Friday for their bravery and civic-mindedness in helping the police fight against crimes.

The recipients, 38 men and two women aged 12 to 70, were presented with certificates and cash at the Good Citizen Award Presentation Ceremony.

Almon Poon, member of the Fight Crime Committee of Hong Kong, commended the award recipients, saying they had set a good example to the public and well deserved the Good Citizen Award.

"The scheme was a success as more and more people took the initiatives to make crime reports and assist police in detecting crimes and arresting culprits," Poon noted.

Since the scheme was launched in 1973, 2,826 people had been awarded. "It shows that the police have obtained extensive support and co-operation from the public in maintaining law and order in Hong Kong," Poon stressed.

The Good Citizen Award Presentation Ceremony, held twice a year, was organized by the Police Public Relations Branch with sponsorship from the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce.
