Chinese Vice-Premier Meets Cambodian VisitorsChinese Vice-Premier Qian Qichen said Friday that China will, as it always has, support the reconstruction and development of Cambodia.Qian, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), met with Heng Samri, honorary chairman of the Cambodian People's Party and first deputy president of the Cambodian National Assembly. He expressed his hope that the country would treasure its hard- won present situation of peace and concentrate on economic growth. He spoke highly of Sino-Cambodian ties, noting bilateral cooperation has been long-term and deep, and therefore has bright prospects. He said he hoped that the two parties and the two peoples would increase contact in the future to lift the relationship up to a new stage. Qian outlined China's stance on regional and international affairs, pointing out that although the world is in the midst of profound changes, relaxation still remains as the general trend, and the pace towards multi-polarism and economic globalization is speeding up. The global society aspires in the 21st Century to establish a just and rational new political and economic order and seek a more stable environment, Qian said. He also appreciated over the position of the Cambodian People's Party and the Cambodian National Assembly to pursue the One-China policy. Heng said he was pleased to see the development of relations between Cambodia and China, and gave high marks to China's great achievements since its reform and opening up. The Cambodian People's Party and the Government will steadfastly stick to the One-China principle, support China's reunification cause and make further contributions to the development of bilateral relations, he said. As a member of the United Nations, Cambodia also supports China as an important player in the U.N. and both international and regional affairs, as well as its entry into the World Trade Organization.
