Chinese, Cameroonian Ministers Sign Pact of Assistance

Chinese and Cameroonian trade ministers Shi Guangsheng and Augustin Kontchou Kouomegni signed an agreement in Beijing Friday morning that says China will offer assistance to the African country.

Shi, Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, and Kouomegni, Minister of State for Foreign Relations, also signed a summary of the fifth session of the China-Cameroon Mixed Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation, which concluded Friday.

During the two-day session, the two sides reviewed the development of bilateral trade and economic cooperation, and exchanged ideas on exploring new ways to boost the two-way trade and cooperation.

Shi said Friday that China will continue to offer as much assistance to Cameroon as it can, and will encourage Chinese firms to cooperate with their Cameroonian counterparts in various forms.

The Chinese minister said China and Cameroon have had wide- ranging and effective cooperation in the economic, technological and trade areas, although the two countries are far away from each other.

"China pays great attention to developing trade and economic cooperative relations with Cameroon and other African countries," he said. "The upcoming China-African Cooperation Forum in Beijing in October, a ministerial-level meeting, demonstrates the sincere wish of China to that end."

Kouomegni said that Cameroon and China share similar views on many international issues and the two have supported each other on many international occasions. He said the cooperation between Cameroon and China has been fruitful.

In addition, the Cameroonian minister said that his country is grateful for China's assistance. He said he is satisfied with the outcome of his current visit to China.
