Great progress has been made since the Chinese Academy of Sciences launched knowledge innovation project experimental work two years ago, according to news from the forum on knowledge innovation project experimental work held in Beijing June 14.

The project, with increasing sci-tech innovation capability at its core, is focused on several areas. It takes system reform as a breakthrough and puts emphasis on improving staff quality.

In regard to structural reform and the transformation of the operational mechanism, the Academy, aiming to build the country's knowledge innovation base, has conducted wide-ranging structural readjustment, drawing 40 research institutions into the effort to experiment with the knowledge innovation project; pushing forward the transformation of the operational mechanism and establishing a mechanism that organically combines knowledge innovation with hi-tech industrialization, presently, it has designated 13 institutions as the pilot units to go about the overall structural reform..

In the sphere of staff building, the Academy has set up new employment and distribution system, making every effort to attract talents, enlarge the postgraduates training scale and step up construction of ranks of sci-tech innovation. Up to now, the innovation base has boasted a floating staff of 7,300 people, among them 600 are postdoctors, 5,200 postgraduates, and 1,500 visiting scholars and guests.
