Chinese Defense Minister Meets Bolivian CounterpartChinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian met Thursday with Oscar Vargas Lorenzetti, minister of National Defence of Bolivia.Chi, also vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission and a State Councilor, said that China and Bolivia have enjoyed smooth relations since the two countries forged diplomatic ties in 1985. He said that China is satisfied with increasing cooperation between the two states in political, economic, military and cultural fields, and is ready to further relations between the two states and armed forces in a healthy and stable way. On the Taiwan issue, Chi said that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China, and the Chinese government adheres to the guidelines of peaceful reunification and "one country, two systems " to resolve the Taiwan issue. He expressed his gratitude for the Bolivian government in supporting the "one China" policy. Vargas said that he is willing to promote friendly relations between the two states and armed forces. Those accompanying Vargas include Alvin Jesus Anaya Kippes, commander of the Bolivian ground forces, and Rene Sanchez Maesse, commander of Bolivian navy. The Bolivian guests arrived here Wednesday. Prior to the meeting, a ceremony was held to welcome Lorenzetti.
