Seminar on Sino-British Investment Concludes in Wuhan

A two-day seminar on Sino-British investment, which drew more than 200 government officials, business executives and experts, concluded in Wuhan Thursday.

The seminar was sponsored by China's Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, Hubei Provincial People's Government, and trade organizations from Britain.

Participants included officials from several Chinese ministries involving foreign trade, a number of provinces and autonomous regions in the country's west, British business leaders, and British diplomatic envoys in China.

Ma Xiuhong, assistant minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, and other Chinese officials briefed the meeting on China's economic situation, policies regarding foreign investment and China's strategy to develop its western regions.

British officials promised that Britain will increase its investment in China, especially in China's inland.

According to statistics, 97 British-funded enterprises with an investment of 230 million U.S. dollars have been founded in Hubei Province.

In 1999, the trade volume between Britain and the province amounted to 84 million U.S. dollars.
