Overseas Scholars Interested in Study on Shanghai

More and more overseas scholars show interest in studying Shanghai, China's most populous metropolis.

Many social scientists in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), Japan and the United States achieved outstanding academic goals in the study of the thriving city, the Wenhui Daily reported.

Prof. Tang Zhenchang, a researcher with the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, noted that U.S. scholars were the first among overseas scholars to study Shanghai since China opened to the outside world.

He quoted the University of California as an example, which has trained a group of scholars who specialize in Shanghai's history and its social conditions.

In recent years, some academic institutions in Australia and Japan have carried out frequent exchanges with their Shanghai counterparts, the newspaper said.
