Premier Zhu Rongji to Visit 6 European Countries and EU

Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji will pay an official visit to six European countries and the headquarters of the European Union (EU) between June 27 and July 11, Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhu Bangzao announced in Beijing Thursday.

At the invitation of Chairman Ivan Kostov of the Council of Ministers of Bulgaria, Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder of Germany, Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker of Luxembourg, Prime Minister Wim Kok of the Netherlands, Prime Minister Giuliano Amato of Italy, Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt of Belgium and President Romano Prodi of the European Commission, Premier Zhu Rongji will visit the aforementioned six countries and the headquarters of the EU from June 27 to July 11.

The spokesman said that during the visit, Zhu will hold meetings and talks with the leaders of the six countries and the EU, and have extensive contacts with people from all walks of life for in-depth exchange of views with them on bilateral relations as well as international and regional issues of common concern.

The visit aims at bringing further development of friendly relations and cooperation on the basis of mutual benefit into the new century between China and the six countries as well as the EU, said the spokesman.
