China Considers Levying Tax on E-commerce Businesses

China is considering collecting tax on electronic commerce enterprises, and a policy framework is expected to be tabled in the second half of this year, according to sources with the State Bureau of Taxation.

The tax collection on e-commerce businesses will be based on the country's current taxation system so as to avoid ``big financial risks,'' the Xinhua News Agency quoted an unidentified official of the administration as saying at a symposium in Chongqing Municipality on June 12.

The taxes will be levied on a fair fashion, and will not influence the market's rational distribution of resources, according to the official.

He did not elaborate on the taxation policies.

The administration has established a research group to make explicit rules regarding taxation on e-commerce firms, he said.
