Plan to Recruit Talent for West China Kicked Off

The Ministry of Personnel announced Thursday that an ambitious plan to recruit talent to work in western China has begun.

The ministry is now outlining specific preferential policies and measures meant to attract more professionals and spur the growth of this economically-backward region.

The plan is primarily focused on such aspects as energy, communications, telecommunications, water conservancy, as well as local specialty and high-tech industries.

While the preferential policies mainly include exploiting the existing talent resources of western China, fostering and recruiting high-caliber and urgently-needed workers, improving the overall quality of talent in western China, attracting overseas Chinese students, and employing more people from eastern China.

Within the year, the ministry is scheduled to train thousands of senior technicians and civil servants to go west, and organize special teams to recruit experts from the United States and eastern China.

A special department to help lead the recruitment work was recently set up within the ministry, with minister Song Defu as its head, the ministry confirmed.
