France's Alstom Promotes Long-Term Development in China

France's Alstom has stepped up efforts this year to promote long-term development in China.

In February the company signed an agreement with the Nanjing Puzhen Rolling Stock Works in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province, to jointly produce 28 trains comprising 168 cars for a Shanghai light railway line.

Earlier this month it held an exhibition of its metro train systems here.

The company is also considering further contributing its experience and expertise to the modernization of the urban transport systems in more Chinese cities like Guangzhou and Shenzhen.

An Alstom source said his company is keen on the prospects for long-term development in China because this country boasts a huge potential metro train market as it pushes forward with its urbanization drive.

Alstom, with a presence in more than 60 countries, came to China in the late 1970s and has since established six representative offices and 11 joint ventures in the country.
