Foreign Minister Hold Talks with Cameroonian Minister

Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan held talks in Beijing on Wednesday with Augustin Kontchou Kouomegni, minister of State for Foreign Relations of Cameroon.

The two ministers exchanged views on bilateral relations and issues of common interests.

Tang spoke highly of the China-Cameroon relations of friendly cooperation. He said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1971, the two countries have conducted fruitful cooperation in various fields, including politics, economy, culture and education.

Tang expressed appreciation for the Cameroonian government's long-term adherence to the one-China position and support of China 's reunification.

He said that China and Cameroon are both developing countries and share common interests on many major international issues.

He added that the two countries have always supported and closely cooperated with each other.

Tang said that the Chinese government attaches importance to developing relations of friendly cooperation with Cameroon and is willing to work with Cameroon to further political contacts, and trade and economic cooperation and push Sino-Cameroonian relations of friendly cooperation to a new high.

Tang briefed the guest on the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation to be held in October this year. He said that he hopes China and African countries will join hands to make the Forum a success.

Kouomegni expressed his thanks to China for its support in various areas. He spoke highly of China's achievements in reform and opening up, and economic construction.

He said the Cameroon abides by the one-China position, adding that Cameroon will strengthen its consultation and cooperation with China in international issues.

Kouomegni said that China is an important partner, adding that the two countries enjoy great potential in economic and trade cooperation.

He said that he hopes the two sides will make efforts to push forward friendly cooperation.

Cameroonian President Paul Biya and the Cameroonian government support the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation to be held in Beijing and will make their due contributions at the Forum, said Kouomegni.

Prior the talks, the two ministers signed an agreement on establishing political consultation between the two foreign ministries.

Kouomegni arrived here Tuesday on an official visit at Tang's invitation.
