China's Export Companies Embrace E-commerce
More than 70 percent of China's export companies have paid attention to foreign trade e-commerce, indicate the latest survey conducted by the Beijing Internet Development Centre.
Already 4.5 % of the country's export-oriented enterprises have done business electronically, and 31.2 % firms have begun to byte into e-commerce. Still 28.7 % of the surveyed businesses said they are slated to make full use of e-commerce, and 12 % of the firms said they are considering using e-commerce.
Only 23.6 % of the surveyed responded that they have yet to mull doing business via the Internet.
``Right now, only transnationals have the ability to conduct international e-commerce independently or jointly,'' said Zhou Yibin, director of the Beijing Internet Development Centre. ``For the huge number of the small and medium-sized enterprises, the most convenient and economic option is to utilize the e-commerce platforms available at a range of web sites.''
Since 1999, China has witnessed an exponential explosion of e-commerce websites, especially the Internet sites devoting to foreign trade. The China International Electronic Commerce Network ( www.ec.com ), MeetChina.com, Alibaba.com and Sparkice.com are among the leading foreign trade web sites operating in China.
More than 42 per cent of China's export enterprises which have done e-commerce are subscribers to the e-commerce platform and services of some web sites, according to the centre's survey results.
Among those registered exporters that have e-commerce activities, some 40 per cent are registered at the China International Electronic Commerce Network, 21.5 per cent are members of the MeetChina.com and 15.4 % registered at the Alibaba.com.
