China Begins Work on Underground Gas Storage Facility
China has begun building an underground gas storage facility at Dazhangtuo in the Dagang Oilfield, north China, as one of the major projects designed to send gas from Shaanxi to Beijing.
Construction of the underground facility, the first of its kind designed by Chinese engineers, involves drilling 12 gas wells and developing a series of ancillary projects on-ground.
China has developed a complete system of underground construction technologies, which have been adopted to increase the country's underground gas storage capacity.
The new facility is expected to have daily peak storage capacity of five million cubic meters, which can supply 600 million cubic meters of gas in winter.
