China, Cameroon Agree to Strengthen Trade RelationsChinese and Cameroon officials agreed Wednesday that they will work actively to boost two-way trade and economic cooperation.Assistant Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC) Wei Jianguo and Cameroon Minister of State for Foreign Relations Augustin Kontchou Kouomegni exchanged views on a wide range of issues related to bilateral trade and economic relations at the 5th meeting of the China-Cameroon Mixed Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation, which began Wednesday. Wei said that China and Cameroon can explore new potential for developing trade and economic cooperation. He added that China hopes that through the current meeting, bilateral trade and economic cooperation will hit new highs. The assistant minister stressed that China pays close attention to its economic ties with Cameroon, and will continue to encourage its firms to invest in the African country, and step up cooperation with their Cameroon partners. Kouomegni said that it is in the long-term interest of the two sides to develop two-way trade and economic cooperation. He said it will lead to better relations between China and Africa. Two-way trade between China and Cameroon reached 96.47 million U.S. dollars last year, up 42.8 percent from a year ago. Chinese firms signed 242 contracts with Cameroon companies last year, involving a contractual volume of 140 million U.S. dollars. |
