China Lists National Award Winners for Performing Arts

China's Ministry of Culture Wednesday released a list of national award winners in the performing arts, including the recipients of the 11 grand prizes.

The top prizes went to the Beijing Opera "Rickshaw Boy" by the Beijing Opera Theater of Jiangsu; the Meihu Opera "Late Rose" by the Shaanxi Institute of Drama; the Sichuan Opera "Jinzi" by the Sichuan Opera Theater of Chongqing; the Hunan Opera "Maling Road" by the Hunan Opera Theater of Hunan; the modern drama "Report on El Nino" by the Modern Drama Troupe of Nanjing Military Area Command; the modern drama "Life and Death" by the Central Experimental Modern Drama Theater; the modern drama "Father" by the Liaoning People's Art Theater; the modern drama "Baptism" by the Modern Drama Troupe of the General Political Department of the People's Liberation Army; the opera "Champaigne" by the China Opera and Ballet Theater; the dance drama "A Bing" by the Wuxi Song and Dance Ensemble; and the puppet show titled "Deer Turning Around" by the Hainan Puppet Show Theater.

Meanwhile, another 74 dramas received awards, and 141 performers were given individual honors, according to the list released by the ministry.

All the prize-winning works reflect the top level of the performing arts in the country, an official with the Ministry of Culture said.

The ministry has decided to issue the awards every two years.
