Sino-German Symposium on Protection of Individual Rights

The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and the German Embassy in China have co-sponsored a symposium on restricting administrative power and protecting individual rights.

Gao Changli, Chinese minister of justice, said that China has set up an administrative legal framework for the supervision and restriction of administrative powers, and reduce the chances of officials breaking the law and infringing on individual rights.

According Chen Jiagui, vice-president of the CASS, China and Germany have a long working relationship in the legal field.

At the three-day symposium, nearly 100 legal experts from China and Germany will discuss a number of topics such as constitutional protection of individual rights, administration by law, administrative procedures and lawsuits as well as role of lawyers in administrative cases.

German Justice Minister Herta Daeubler-Gmelin, Vice-President of the Federal Assembly Antje Vollmer and Ambassador Hans-Christian Ueberschaeer attended the opening Monday.
