National Library Gets Copy of Mao--Marked Chinese Chronicles Facsimile Edition

China's National Library on June 13 received a complete set of the newly-printed copies of the well- known Chinese history records "The Twenty-Four Chronicles", in a thread-bound facsimile edition, with commentaries written by the late leader Mao Zedong.

The copies were reproduced based on a collection of "The Twenty- Four Chronicles" of the late Chinese leader who was known for writing commentaries on history books while reading.

A large number of scholars and experts have been involved in the publishing of the thread-bound chronicles, the largest ever thread-bound book publishing project in China since the founding of the People's Republic in 1949.

A limited edition of 500 sets, each in 850 volumes and priced at 160,000 yuan, have been printed and registered to be sold at home and abroad. In 1997, the first 200 sets were published, attracting many buyers.

At the donation ceremony on June 13, the plates used to print the facsimile edition were destroyed with notaries present.
