China's Man-Made Forest Ranks First in the World

The Fifth National Survey on China's Forest Resources indicates that the acreage of the country's man-made forest exceeds 46 million hectares, ranking first in the world.

The figures released by the China State Forestry Administration on June 13 also show that the country's man-made forest storage stands at 1.01 billion cubic meters. From 1994 to 1998, the acreage of man-made forests increased by over 10 million hectares, a rise of more than 2 million hectares annually and accounting for 74.8 percent of the total forest acreage growth.

In 1999, the acreage of man-made forest further expanded, with more than 4 million hectares of land reafforested.
