China's Summer Grain Output to Reduce by 10 percentChina's summer grain output is expected to stand at 105 billion tons, about 10 percent less than last year due to acreage reduction and droughts, according figures released Tuesday by the China Ministry of Agriculture. The Ministry predicts that China's acreage of summer grain will be reduced by 1.33 million hectares from last year to 29 million hectares, with the total grain acreage for the year standing at 109 million hectares, a reduction of about 3.33 million hectares. China's drive to reform its rural economy is the major reason for grain acreage reduction, the Ministry says, adding that wheat and corn acreage will be reduced while quality early paddy acreage will increase by 3.53 million hectares. Due to bright textile exports, cotton price has rebounded and its acreage has grown to last year's level. The acreage of oil- bearing crops will increase by 1.4 million hectares while sugar crops will be reduced by 160,000 hectares. |
