Chinese Vice-President Meets Vietnamese Delegation

Chinese Vice-President Hu Jintao met in Beijing Wednesday with Nguyen Duc Binh, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

Nguyen Duc Binh is in Beijing for a two-day Sino-Vietnamese Symposium on Ideology, which opened on Tuesday.

Hu, also a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, said that Sino-Vietnamese relations have exhibited good development momentum in recent years, thanks to the efforts made by leaders of the two countries, and exchanges in various fields have been increasing.

"We are delighted about that," Hu said.

The two parties, as ruling parties, are facing the task of reforms and developing their countries, Hu said, pointing out that both of them adhere to socialism, reform and opening-up, and are exploring the road of development suitable to their own national conditions, and are facing some similar problems and challenges on the road ahead.

Under the new situation, it is important that the two parties learn from each other in the area of socialist theories and practice, thus strengthening ideological and theoretical work and promoting the smooth development of socialism.

Hu said that Marxism is a science which is deeply rooted in practice and perfected through practice. It will continue to develop along with development of the times, practice and science, Hu said, adding that today's world is undergoing complicated and profound changes, and fast-growing areas of science and technology have changed and will continue to change the economy and society at a global level. Communists must deal with the changes and make new scientific decisions, so as to stay in tune with the trend of times and push forward socialism, he stressed.

He said he hopes that theoreticians of the two countries will promote exchanges in order to develop and enrich Marxism.

Nguyen Duc Binh said that frequent exchange of visits has helped promote relations between the two countries and parties, and there have been increased exchanges in the areas of theoretical research and social science research.

He expressed satisfaction with the positive exchanges among theoreticians at the gathering in Beijing, and said he hopes that there will be more such meetings in the future.
