Chinese Red Cross Donates to Quake Victims in Indonesia

The Chinese Red Cross on Wednesday donated 20,000 US dollars to quake victims in Indonesia's Bengkulu province.

The donation ceremony was held at the Indonesian Red Cross in central Jakarta and attended by Chinese charge d'affairs ad interim in Indonesia Xiao Zhengrong and Chairman of the Indonesian Red Cross Mar'ie Mohamad.

Xiao, who transmitted the donation on behalf of the Chinese Red Cross, said at the ceremony that the aid showed the sympathetic feelings to the quake victims in Indonesia from the Chinese government and the Chinese people.

Mar'ie thanked for China's assistance and ensured that his red cross will soon pass on the donation to the people in Bengkulu province.

Bengkulu province with 1.4 million population was hit by a powerful earthquake measuring 7.9 on the Richter Scale on June 4, killing at least 130 people and injuring hundreds of others.

Up to now, at least 10 countries have provided assistance to the quake victims and many foreign medical teams have arrived in Bengkulu to rescue the injured.
