Chinese State Councilor Meets Botswana PresidentState Councilor Wu Yi met with visiting Botswana President Festus Mogae at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse Tuesday afternoon.Wu said that upon back from her visit to Botswana early this year, she started implementing the consensus reached between the two sides. One of the purposes of President Mogae's current visit is to expand the cooperative sphere and means, and this demonstrated the willingness and sincerity of both sides for further cooperation, Wu said. The Chinese side held that to increase mutually beneficial cooperation should be the top task in reinforcing bilateral economic and trade relationship, Wu said, adding China is willing to continue efforts in this regard. As to the specific cooperative projects put forward by Botswana, she said China will earnestly conduct studies and encourage Chinese enterprises to cooperate with Botswana. Mogae said he had already held successful meetings with President Jiang Zemin and Premier Zhu Rongji respectively, and four important cooperative agreements have been signed during the current visit. He said the businesspeople accompanying him on the current visit have conducted helpful discussions with the Chinese business circle, and they are all excited about the cooperative potential between the two sides. The president also voiced strong confidence about the prospects of future bilateral economic and trade cooperation.
