China and Ukraine Ratify Extradition Treaty

Ukraine and China celebrated the ratification of bilateral agreements on an extradition treaty in the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday.

Chinese ambassador to Ukraine Zhou Xiaopei and the Ukrainian first deputy minister of foreign affairs exchanged copies of the ratification agreements on behalf of their countries.

The treaty, reached by the judicial authorities of China and the Ukraine on the basis of mutual respect for sovereignty, equality and safeguarding the common interests of the two nations, is an important document for sustaining cooperation efficiently while fighting crime.

It will strengthen the legal foundation for judicial cooperation, thus enhancing personnel exchanges and encourage mutually beneficial cooperation.

The Sino-Ukraine Extradition Treaty was signed by the foreign ministers of both countries in Beijing, China, December 10th, 1998.

It was approved by the parliaments of the two countries in June and October last year respectively. The treaty will come into effect 30 days from Tuesday.
