Experts Study Ecological Environment On Upper Reaches of Yangtze RiverAn investigation team of 10 Chinese experts started today their tour along the Minjiang River, a major tributary of the Yangtze River, to study the possibility of rebuilding the ecology in the area.These experts come from the animals and plants research institute under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chengdu Biological Research Institute, Kunming Plants Research Institute, Xishuangbanna Botanical Garden, and Sichuan Provincial Academy of Forestry Sciences. Liu Zhaoguang, a professor from the Chengdu Biological Research Institute, said that they will launch a group of pilot projects for ecological rebuilding in the area, and provide theoretical and technological supports for the protection of natural forests along the upper reaches of the Yangtze River and the state project designated to turn sloping farmland into forested areas in western China. Xinhua learned that an ecological station built in Maoxian County, Sichuan Province, has helped the county set up a yew production base with an annual output value of 100 million yuan ( about 12.04 million U.S. dollars). |
