US Urged to Observe One-China PrincipleChina Tuesday urged the United States to observe the one-China principle and put an end to arms sales to Taiwan and any exchange or contact of an official nature with Taiwan.Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhu Bangzao put up the urge at a press conference when commenting on a report that the US government will send Secretary of Transportation Rodney Slater to attend the 24th joint meeting of the US-Taiwan Business Council, and sell to Taiwan electronic countermeasures and navigation equipment for F-16 fighters. Zhu said that the erroneous acts of the US government have seriously violated the three China-US joint communiques and infringed upon China's sovereignty. The Chinese government has already made solemn representations with the US government to express its strong displeasure and firm opposition, he said. "We demand that the US honor its words, observe the one-China principle as well as the three China-US joint communiques and relevant commitments made by the US side, and put an end to arms sales to Taiwan and any exchange or contact of an official nature with Taiwan," Zhu stressed. |
