The seven-day exposition, the 6th Auto China 2000, was closed Monday with the participation of 1,000 auto and parts manufacturers from some 20 countries and regions.

According to the organizing committee, in the past seven days, a total of 400,000 people had visited the exhibition, among them 20.8 percent were from the auto-making circle, and 31.5 percent were outside visitors. Nearly 150,000 persons went to exhibition on Saturday.

About 40 foreign cars on display were bought by the enthusiastic visitors. The price set for Benz S600 was 3,000,000 yuan each, becoming the most expensive one.

With China's coming entry into the WTO, the positioning of foreign automobiles has been changed. In the past, foreign autos attracted a lot of inspectors but few of them would purchase. Now, more people are considering buying. Wang Fachang, chief manager of the First Auto Trade and Sale Company, pointed out that compared with former exhibitions, most foreign auto manufacturers replaced their traditional luxurious top-grade cars with economical products which fit Chinese families and markets. This change indicates that foreign manufacturers have been well prepared for the development of the Chinese market. A big challenge is posed to domestic automobile makers. The fierce competition ahead urges Chinese domestic factories and sale agencies to further improve their product quality as well as their services so as to survive and even win the battle.
