Aerial Train Is to Be Installed in Chongqing
Chongqing is going to import an aerial train into the city from the U.S.. The project for the train will be under construction at the Chaotianmen Harbor, the confluence of the Yangtze River and the Jialing River. This is the first aerial train introduced to the metropolis.
Chongqing Oriental Aerial Train Company, American Aerial (China) Company Ltd. and Chongqing Southwest Technology Import & Export Company jointly signed the agreement for its introduction. In accordance with the agreement, the U.S. side will get 240 million US dollars for the transfer of equipment and technology.
The first phase of the project will cover a distance of 2.6 km, and with each train consisting of seven cars, it carries 280 passengers at a time. With a speed of 60 km per hour, it takes only six minutes to cover the distance. The total investment is 480 million yuan and the project is expected to wind up in 2002.
The Aerial Suspended train, which integrates the sightseeing and passenger transport into one, is the fifth generation of the product newly developed by the American Aerial Train Company.
