Shanghai Enterprises Have 20,000 Foreign Experts

Shanghai, the largest commercial center of China, has invited more than 20,000 foreign experts working in its enterprises, according to latest statistics.

Involvement of foreign experts has greatly promoted the city's technological innovation and economic development, sources said.

The Shanghai Automotive Corporation, one of the city's industrial pillars, for example, has employed 800 foreign experts to guide the innovation program for Santana and Buick cars, and achieved remarkable success accordingly.

In order to raise their competitiveness in international personnel market, some enterprises offered high salaries.

Shanghai Tian'an Bearing Co., Ltd was a loss-making enterprise. Since 1997, it has invited five Japanese experts to take charge of technological innovation. And now, the company has become profitable.

It paid two million yuan for the effort. "It is worthwhile," the general manager said.

In recent years, Shanghai has selected over 200 people to study in America, Germany, Britain and Hong Kong, preparing talent reserves for enterprises.
