Doctoral Thesis of Famous Chinese Writer to Be Published

The doctoral thesis of a famous Chinese writer Qian Zhongshu will be published soon by the Daxiang Publishing House.

"China Depicted In British Literature During The 17th and 18th Centuries," the doctoral thesis in English, has been rarely researched by modern scholars so far, the Shanghai-based Wenhui Daily reported.

The thesis is divided into three parts and covers a large corpus of material concerning China found in British literary works in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Qian wrote the thesis in English with many French, German and Latin quotations, when applying for an associate doctorate in the English Faculty at Oxford University in the late 1930s.

Qian spent most of his life researching Chinese and Western Literature. He died in 1998, leaving behind a legacy of works admired by Chinese and foreigners.

His famous works include "Fortress Besieged," which has been translated into dozens of foreign languages.
