Chongqing Woos Investment for Key Projects

Chongqing, the largest municipality in southwest China, offered 423 projects for investment during the 2000 China Chongqing Investment and Trade Talks which opened on Tuesday.

These projects involving a total investment of 132.2 billion yuan (US$15.93 billion) cover industry, agriculture, infrastructure facilities, tourism, commerce, science and technology sectors.

Overseas investors have already shown interest in these projects, according to Vice-Mayor Wang Hongju. The city signed 100 investment agreements with overseas investors two weeks ago, attracting US$763 million, said Wang.

Chongqing will reportedly spend 11.35 billion yuan on 10 key projects in the near future. The projects include posts and telecommunications, urban drainage system, and environmental protection.
