China Launches Campaign To Help Bordering Provinces

China has already spent 400 million yuan (about 48.2 million U.S. dollars since February to help people in its bordering provinces eliminate poverty, said an official from the State Ethnic Affairs Commission Sunday.

The official said that the campaign launched by his commission aims to help 21 million people in 135 counties along the 20,000-km long border line to eliminate poverty and improve their economic situation in the coming decade.

The State Ethnic Affairs Commission has designated ten counties for trial execution of the effort in nine remote and border provinces and autonomous regions.

Southwest China's Yunnan Province has injected 175 million yuan (about 21 million U.S. dollars to provide free primary school education to ethnic areas.
