Botswana President Arrives for State Visit

President Festus Mogae of Botswana arrived in Beijing Monday afternoon, kicking off his six-day state visit to China at the invitation of President Jiang Zemin.

Mogae's entourage includes his wife Barbara Mogae, Foreign Minister Mompati Merafhe, and other senior officials and businesspeople.

This is Mogae's first visit to China in the capacity of President. President Jiang is expected to host a red carpet welcome for and hold formal talks with the Botswana President later this afternoon.
