Iran Gives Priority to Cooperation with Regional Countries: PresidentIranian President Mohammad Khatami said on Sunday Iran gives priority to cooperation with friendly countries in the region so that the economies of both sides will be complementary to each other.In a meeting with his Uzbek counterpart Islam Karimov, Khatami also stressed the importance of regional cooperation and unity in obviating the presence and greedy desires of some foreign countries for the region's rich resources, the Islamic Republic News Agency reported. Karimov arrived Friday for the sixth summit of the regional Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), which was held Saturday with the participation of heads of states and senior government officials of member countries. In their meeting on Sunday, Khatami and Karimov also highlighted the removal of economic barriers, expansion of transportation and preparation of necessary grounds for investment between the two countries. Security and progress of regional states depend on security of the entire region, therefore, Iran and Uzbekistan should have more extensive cooperation, especially in the field of economy, Khatami said. The two leaders also underlined their mutual policy of non-intervention in internal affairs of other countries. On the Afghan crisis, the two leaders stressed all political groups in Afghanistan should be considered in seeking a political solution to the civil war.
